At Leiden University Medical Center, Several titanium AVP devices were successfully deployed during 8 valve-sparing aortic root replacement operations.
AVP device stands for: Aortic Visualisation and Pressurisation device.
With this device, the surgeons performed a quick intraoperative assessment of the aortic valve condition and possible leakage over the valve.
So far, no tools are available to perform such an assessment during this phase of the operation in which the heart is at rest and the patient is supported with the cardiopulmonary bypass technique.
